2016 Volkswagen Touareg will be based on a new platform, and this switch will bring a lot of good news. 2016 Volkswagen Touareg will be built on the versatile MLB modular platform. New platform is made of light weighted materials such as aluminum, magnesium and carbon fibers which will cause the weight reduction up to 661 pounds (300 kg). This will cause changes in Touareg ‘s dimensions, while fuel economy and better handling will follow the platform change.

German producer will include a hybrid variant into production for upcoming model year, for US market too, while CO2 emission will be reduced for now. It continues to offer three trim levels, Sport, Lux, and Executive, while Hybrid variant comes only highly equipped, in Executive trim.

Standard equipment includes two-zone climate control, adaptive headlights, memory function seats and leather upholstery. Highest trim adds Premium audio system, heatable steering wheel and rear seats, rear sensors, a panoramic roof, and keyless ignition.

2016 Volkswagen Touareg is one of the best-equipped vehicles when it comes to safety features. It earned IIHS‘s top ‘good’ scores in frontal, side, rear, and roof-strength tests for previous model, and with latest safety tech it will certainly keep its position.

Base engine is carried over, and it is still a 3.6-liter V-6 with 280 horsepower and 265 pound-feet of torque. It comes combined with an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.

Diesel engine found under the hood of 2016 VW Touareg is a 3.0-liter turbo-diesel TDI with 240 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque.

The hybrid variant will offer total output of 380 hp and 428 lb-ft of torque, which comes from a combination of a supercharged, direct-injection 3.0-liter V6 petrol engine and an electric motor.

Transmission choice and drivetrain are the same for diesel and hybrid, as for the base Touareg.

2016 Volkswagen Touareg packed with diesel engine delivers 20/29/23 mpg, with petrol 17/23/19 mpg and hybrid variants is rated at 20/24/21 mpg city/hwy/combined.

Jeep Grand Cherokee, Mazda CX-9, Dodge Durango and Ford Explorer all fall into the same category as VW Touareg, and are the closest rivals for the luxury mid-size crossover SUV.

Price range will probably be slightly increased, compared to $45,000 which was the base price of the previous model. Pricing specs for 2016 model year are not revealed yet, but we will inform you about it, as soon as it comes out. The release is expected during the second half of 2015.
