2016 Opel Insignia SUV, known also as Insignia Country Tourer is one out of completely nine new models Opel plans to launch for 2016 model year. The main focus of Opel’s productions will be on SUV models, according to their CEO, Karl-Thomas Neumann. Opel officials and experts believe that this new plan will give them higher profit rates. “We will move more into crossover segments in general, because that’s where customers are going,” said Neumann at the Geneva Auto Show last year. This strategy seems to start with 2016 Opel Insignia SUV which was recently spotted on the streets during the powertrain testing.

When it comes to the exterior design, we had a chance to see what we can expect from this model, when Opel introduced its Monza Concept. Opel’s 2016 Insignia SUV has sleek body lines, with reshaped headlight and front end. New Insignia SUV will be built on GM’s E2XX architecture. Elegant exterior look will be greatly combined with sporty but sophisticated interior.

Opel will offer variety of engines for its 2016 Insignia SUV. Both petrol and diesel variants will be available, while customers will be able to choose between 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission.

Base engine will be a 2.0-liter SIDI Turbo four-cylinder with 247 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque. Smaller engine available could be a 1.6-liter ECOTEC Inline-4 that is capable to deliver up to 170 hp and 207 lb-ft of torque.

Diesel engine available will be one of 2.0-liter CDTI power unit with an output of 163 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque.

New for this model is also a front-wheel drive, since this model has been available only with all-wheel drive. This switch enabled Opel to offer better fuel economy, by up to 20%, as well as lower emissions, and 2016 Opel Insignia SUV now fall into A+ category. Start-Stop technology is also available for the latest Insignia SUV.

Top three rivals of this great SUV include Audi A4 Allroad, Ford Mondeo and Volkswagen Passat, but we will have to wait for final release in order to compare some of the highlights of these models.

2016 Insignia SUV is not expected to be released before late 2015, or, more likely, early on 2016. Price will not be drastically changed, so we believe that new model year will not bring major differences. New Insignia SUV should be priced around $40,000 and its higher trims will go up to $50,000.
