2016 Land Rover Discovery Review and Price

2016 Land Rover Discovery represents the fifth generation, and it is scheduled for a big redesign.  Land Rover design director and chief creative officer Gerry McGovern discovered that Range Rover models, Land Rover Discovery and Defender are the top models of the brand and its primary focus. More versatile that the Range Rover models, 2016 Land Rover Discovery will offer seats for seven, with 5+2 configuration. McGovern further announced that “There will be three families within the brand: Range Rovers, which talk to luxury and refinement; Discovery [models] that talk to utility; and Defenders that will talk to purpose and durability.”

Slanted grille and arching headlamps are part of the changes made on 2016 Land Rover Discovery. Popular mid-size luxury SUV is available in four trims including TDV6, S, SE, and HSE. New appearance of the Discovery was hinted at this year New York auto show, where Land Rover revealed its Discovery Vision concept. The Concept version revealed the all-new exterior, with letting go the old Discovery as we know it. Traditional body shape is replaced with all new and modern appearance, which left some of the old fans sad. Hidden windshield wipers, 23-inch wheels and flush badging are some of the styling cues which will be available on the latest Disco, while the biggest surprise were rear doors that are hinged at the back, allowing better approach to rear seats.

Although primarily designed for off-road drive, 2016 Land Rover Discovery’s interior will attract both families who enjoy outdoor activities and those who do not. We got used to high luxury and top-line equipment from Land Rover, but 2016 Land Rover Discovery is one of the best SUVs on the market when it comes to their possibilities and versatility of its use. Discovery family also brings a Sport version for 2016 model year, which will be launched prior to the regular, family version.

Depending on trim, 2016 Land Rover Discovery offers couple of choices under the hood. 3.0-liter V6 engine will probably be the base engine for new Discovery with 340 horsepower and 342 lb.-ft. of torque. 5.0-liter V8 engine with 510 horsepower and 461 lb-ft of torque could also be included in the offer, as optional, but Land Rover’s officials didn’t confirmed this information, so we can’t claim it for sure.

2016 Land Rover Discovery Sport will probably be run by a smaller power unit, a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder with 240 horsepower and 250 pound-feet of torque. Transmission choice and drive system will be the same for both engines. Transmission will be 9-speed automatic, while all-wheel drive will be standard.

Top five competitors of the 2016 Land Rover Discovery are Porsche Cayenne, Audi Q7, BMW X5, Acura MDX and Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class. As noticeable, Land Rover Discovery has only one non-European opponent – Acura.

Release of the latest Discovery is expected during the first half of 2015, while its base price shouldn’t record significant increase. You can expect its base version to start from $40,000, approximately.
