2015 Toyota Highlander doesn’t bring much news, having in mind that Highlander was redesigned for previous model year. Highlander featured big transition with its 2014 edition, from crossover to SUV, and for this model year Highlander is mostly carried on.

Safety of 2015 Toyota Highlander is a top-notch! It gained the NHTSA 5-Star Overall Safety Rating and being named IIHS Top Safety Pick Plus, for its last year edition. Considering that changes are minor for 2015, you can be sure that with this car you will be safe-as-possible, which is pretty important in overall assessment. Among numerous safety features is also Star Safety System that includes enhanced VSC (Vehicle Stability Control), traction control (TRAC), anti-lock brake system (ABS), EBD (Electronic Brake-force Distribution), brake assist and SST (Smart Stop Technology).

Standard exterior features for base 2015 Toyota Highlander LE trim level include smoked-chrome-accent headlights, 18-inch alloy wheels, de-ice windshield wipers, heated mirrors with turn signal indicators and power folding. On the inside of this trim, Highlander offers second and third-row 60/40 split, sliding and reclining fold-flat seating, backup camera, Entune Audio system with 6.1-inch HRHD touch-screen display with Intelligent Touch, Bluetooth Wi-Fi technology and voice recognition, a 3.5-inch LCD MID (Multi-Information Display), 6-way adjustable driver’s and 4-way adjustable front passenger seat.

Going further down the line-up, trims offer much more features. Last in the alignment, Limited is available with these standard features:  19-inch Chromtec alloy wheels, rear park assist, LED Daytime Running Lights, blind-spot monitor with RCTA (Rear Cross-Traffic Alert), Entune Premium JBL Audio with an 8-inch touchscreen display, Navigation and App Suite, leather upholstery, heated and cooled front seats with memory settings (driver seat) and blue LED ambient lighting.

2015 Toyota Highlander offered one engine standard for the base LE and one for the other three trims. Base engine that comes standard under the hood of the LE is 2.7-liter 4-Cylinder DOHC 16-Valve with Dual VVT-i. It produces up to 185 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. of torque.

Optional for the base trim and standard engine on all others is a 3.5-liter DOHC V6 24-Valve with Dual VVT-i. This engine provides up to 270 horsepower and 248 lb.-ft. of torque.

Standard transmission is 6-speed ECT-I (Electronically Controlled Transmission with intelligence) and it is mated to both engines and standard and only for all trims. Front wheel drive is standard on all trims, while all-while drive is available as optional, and possible only with V6 under the hood.

Fuel consumption rates differ on engine and drivetrain, as usual. 2015 Toyota Highlander LE with 4-Cylinder engine is rated at 20/25 mpg city/hwy. FWD Highlanders with V6 engine are rated at 19/25 mpg, and AWD 18/24 mpg city/hwy.

The primary rivals for 2015 Toyota Highlander are Chevrolet Traverse, Dodge Durango, Ford Explorer, and Cadillac SRX. Every one of these SUV is packed with great luxury features and powertrains. Design preferences and price differences will ultimately decide the winner. Highly competitive category makes this segment great, and offers full diversity of choices. Honda Pilot and Mazda CX-9 are also in race for the top-seller, and in that path direct opponents of the popular Highlander.

Toyota already released its Highlander, with competitive features and prices. Starting price for the 2015 Toyota Highlander LE is $29 415. LE Plus is priced at $32 940, XLE $36 240, while the price for top level Limited starts at $39 840.
