The mark “2.5i” indicates the engine that is found under the hood, which is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder and is good for 175 horsepower and 174 pound-feet of torque. Top trim, 3.6R Limited, is run by a 3.6-liter six-cylinder capable to deliver 256 horsepower and 247 lb-ft of torque. Both engines are mated to a CVT, and both feature better efficiency. 2015 Subaru Outback with 2.5-liter engine is capable to go up to 25/33/28 mpg city/hwy/combined, while with a 3.6-liter unit it goes 20/27/22 mpg, and numbers show an increase, which proves the fuel consumption savings Subaru talked about.
