2015 Land Rover Defender

2015 Land Rover Defender is probably the last year of its production. News about Defender’s end of life saddened everyone. This iconic SUV started its production in 1983, and was known by the name Land Rover 90 and the Land Rover 110, and eight years later, in 1991, it got its famous name Defender. After it was renamed, the Defender continue to carry the number marks 90 and 110 (numbers represented the wheelbase in inches) on its rear end. Beside 90 and 110, the Defender was available also with a 127 mark, and this version was designed to accommodate larger, heavier loads to reach the demands of certain industry.

Queen’s favorite SUV will have its successor which will have all off-road capabilities as the Defender, but will feature major design change. The Defender’s replacement will be revealed in 2016 and 2015 Land Rover Defender will be the last version of this SUV as we know it, since its production ends in December next year. The reason for the production cease are strict safety and emission regulation that, according to company officials, “…the Defender just won’t meet.” For 2015 model year famous Defender was presented in two special editions including “Black Pack” and “Silver Pack”. Both editions do not bring any major change, but specially trimmed, with few cosmetic details painted in color of the pack. As you can see from the pictures, grill, headlight environs, roof and few other details are painted in contrast with the rest of the body. 2015 Land Rover Defender is available in various body styles, including pick-up, hard top, soft top and station wagon, each offered with both 90 and 110 wheelbase. Defender station wagon can be customized as five or seven-seater. Beside two special packs, 2015 Defender has a new body color, Yulong White, as well as ebony Alston headliner and DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) as part of standard equipment.

For the US market, 2015 Defender will probably have a 5.0-liter V8 gasoline engine, while European version will be equipped with a range of diesels. One of the diesel choices for European market is a 2.2-liter turbo diesel with 266 lb-ft of torque and 122 horsepower.  6-speed manual transmission is standard as well as all-wheel-drive.

24/30/28 mpg are average consumption rates, with diesel engine, while specification for US market is not released yet.

2015 Defender’s competitors could be Jeep Wrangler and Toyota FJ Cruiser, due to their off-road abilities. However, it is hard to say who the toughest opponents of this giant are. Its popularity is sky-high, and you either like it or don’t.

2015 Land Rover Defender price and release

2015 Land Rover Defender was presented at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, few months ago, in March. Its already released on sale in some areas, while its release date for US is not confirmed yet. Its price range for UK market goes from $44,990 to $48,990.
